Christianity is not a spectator sport.
We all need to get in the game.
Don't just tell us about faith. Let us Participate.
In my ministry, I have invited people to
get involved at every level.
A preacher can tell you a lot about the Bible.
But when you read the Bible yourself, the Holy Spirit can tell you so much more.
Last year, over 100 members of our church committed themselves to reading the Bible in 90 Days. People who weren't members heard about the challenge and joined in. We all heard God speak through His Word together.
We kicked off a Lenten sermon series on the book "My Heart, Christ's Home" by looking at the mess we make of our own hearts' homes by pushing Jesus out and allowing sin in.I invited members of our high school youth group and their leaders to recreate a popular skit, tweaking it to fit our purposes, to show in a worship service.
There are plenty of versions of this skit available on YouTube. I could have showed one of them. But I knew that if I engaged our youth and young adults in making the video themselves, if they had a way of participating in the service, they would get so much more out of it.
A group of members who have experienced the powerful presence of God and the love of Christ have become convinced of our call to share that love with our neighbors all across the globe. They are not satisfied with mission just being about giving away money. They want mission to be something that we do- something we ALL do. I am working with them to help them see "The Hole in Our Gospel" and to discern God's calling for our church to partner in mission.
