Hello!

My name is Becca Bruner. Please allow me to (re)introduce myself, and share with you my mission to reach out to a generation of young adults and families, coming together to love God and love others in the way of Jesus Christ.

This blog is an attempt to cast a vision for what ministry might look like, if I were called to serve in ministry at Paoli Presbyterian Church. Take a look around- I hope you like what you see!

Scroll down through this page to read some of my guiding principles for ministry with young adults and families. If you're curious about how I preach, you can listen to some of my sermons on my podcast. The link is over there on the right.

Click on the "What I've Done" page to see some of the ways I've ministered to the young adults and families in my current church context.

Click on the "EPIC Calendar" page to see what kinds of opportunities and events I might offer at Paoli.

Finally, click on the "EPIC Stories" page to meet the young adults and families who might be a part of this community and learn how they are learning to love God and others in the way of Jesus.

Who is this Generation?

They call us the "None's"- a generation of young adults and families whose religious affiliation is "none".  Even those of us who were raised in the church- 40% of us don't return after graduating high school.

It's not that we lose our faith. We consider ourselves to be very spiritual. Just not religious. But we long for something more. Something bigger. Something more meaningful. Something that is beyond the everydayness of life.

We believe in God. We pray. We experience God's presence in nature, in art, in music. We long for ways to connect to this God in ways we can FEEL.

We want to be the best at everything we do- our jobs, our families, even our hobbies. But more than success, we want meaning. We want to know that the things we put our time and effort into matter. We want to know that WE matter.

We have thousands of Facebook friends. But we want real, face-to-face friends. We long for authentic, transparent relationships- people with whom we can share a meal and share our lives.

Our world is flat. As children at the dinner table, we were told about starving children in Ethiopia and ever since we have had a front row seat to the suffering all around the world. And we want to do something about it. We want to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, befriend the lonely, and fight the systems of injustice that put people in these places of need. We don't want to just give money. We want to give ourselves.

And if we find a community of faith that offers this kind of life... we just might go there.
We just might give our lives to THIS kind of life.
But the life of faith we're looking for is one that is EPIC.

Epic Faith

They say our generation wants an EPIC faith.

We want to Experience the presence of God… not just have someone tell us about Him.

We want to Participate in the work of God… not just watch the paid professionals do it for us.

We are drawn in by Images… a picture is worth a thousand words and a good story is worth a handful of propositions.

We want to be Connected- we long for authentic, transparent relationships with God and with one another.
